Is your mind
ALWAYS SPINNING?

If you:

  • get caught in worry spirals that are hard to interrupt
  • are in a constant state of physical tension
  • avoid important things that trigger anxiety
  • have at least 57 tabs open in your brain at any time
  • feel physically sick at the thought of everything that could go wrong
  • are always on alert for danger, even when you're safe
  • are beyond exhausted from all of the above

...you might be dealing with high-functioning anxiety. You look good on paper. You're meeting your professional targets. But performance comes at a cost: sleep disruption, chronic overpreparation, persistent dread, and difficulty saying no. The cost stays invisible until it doesn't.

ANXIETY might be in the driver's seat,
but you can TAKE BACK THE WHEEL.

Individual therapy helps you balance perspective and learn to live the life you want, even when anxiety is present. The goal isn't to eliminate anxiety entirely. It's to change your relationship with it so you're in charge, not your anxiety.

UNDERSTANDING anxiety

Anxiety is a normal human emotion. Some amount of anxiety is actually healthy, because it helps motivate and energize us to do things that help our survival. Anxiety becomes a problem when it becomes disproportionate to the situation and starts interfering with life.

People experience symptoms like racing worry thoughts, physical tension, elevated heart rate, nausea, feeling hot or cold, sleep problems, and avoidance of triggers. Anxiety can be absolutely debilitating, but it is also very treatable.

Here's the thing: the goal of anxiety therapy isn't to get rid of anxiety entirely. It's to change your relationship with it so that anxiety stops calling the shots.

Imagine if you could...

  • learn tools to soothe your nervous system
  • cope with the worry thoughts, instead of getting stuck in them
  • do the things that matter, even if they make you nervous
  • use anxiety strategically as a tool to motivate

what kinds of
ANXIETY DO WE TREAT?

I trained for two years in an Anxiety Disorders Clinic and have direct experience working with a range of anxiety presentations. Whether you have a longstanding diagnosis or just know that anxiety is getting in the way, that's a great place to start.

For people with a genetic predisposition to anxiety, their anxiety might evolve over time. They may even meet criteria for different anxiety disorders at different times in their life.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

Chronic, wide-ranging worry that's difficult to control and affects multiple areas of life.

Social Anxiety Disorder

Intense fear of social situations and of being evaluated negatively by others.

Panic Disorder

Recurrent, unexpected panic attacks accompanied by persistent fear of future episodes.

OCD

Patterns of intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviors used to manage anxiety.

Many clients also come in with high-functioning anxiety: no formal diagnosis, but a persistent pattern of performing well externally while struggling internally. You look good on paper. You might even be exceeding your professional targets. But anxiety is taking more from you than it's giving, and that cost stays invisible until it doesn't.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the symptoms of high-functioning anxiety? +
You look good on paper, but feel like a wreck on the inside. Common symptoms include overpreparation, perfectionism, difficulty saying no, people-pleasing, sleep disruption, persistent dread, and chronic physical tension. You're meeting your professional targets, but the cost stays invisible until it doesn't.
Will anxiety therapy affect my drive and performance? +
No. A healthy amount of anxiety is motivating. The problem is that too much anxiety actively impairs performance, even when it looks from the outside like it's driving results. When anxiety is running at a level that costs you sleep, energy, mental bandwidth, and physical wellbeing, it's taking more than it's giving. Managing it effectively frees up the cognitive and emotional resources you need to actually perform at your best.
What if I'm not sure I'm anxious enough to need therapy? +
Such an important question! You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. If anxiety is costing you sleep, energy, relationships, or the ability to be present in your own life, that's enough of a reason. As long as you're ready to do some work on it, we're in business.
How long does anxiety therapy take? +
Classic psychology answer: it depends! The length varies based on the type and severity of your anxiety, your history, your goals, and your engagement between sessions. Many clients begin to notice meaningful shifts within weeks to a few months of consistent work. We reassess and adjust the plan as we go.
Do you offer online anxiety therapy in New York and Pennsylvania? +
Yes! Bravewood Behavioral Health is a fully virtual practice. All sessions are delivered via HIPAA-compliant telehealth. I'm licensed to practice in New York and Pennsylvania, so as long as you're located in one of those states during sessions, we're in business.
What anxiety disorders does Bravewood Behavioral Health treat? +
I trained for two years in an Anxiety Disorders Clinic and have direct experience working with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Social Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Many clients come in with high-functioning anxiety that doesn't yet have a formal diagnosis but is significantly affecting their quality of life.
Do I need a diagnosis to start anxiety therapy? +
No diagnosis required! Many clients come in knowing something is off but without a formal label. We figure that out together. Whether you have a longstanding diagnosis or just know that anxiety is getting in the way of your life, that's a great place to start.
Does Bravewood Behavioral Health accept insurance? +
I'm an out-of-network provider. I don't bill insurance directly, but many clients are able to submit claims to their insurance for partial reimbursement using a superbill I provide. I recommend checking with your insurance about your out-of-network mental health benefits before we get started.
How much does anxiety therapy cost at Bravewood? +
Session fees are discussed during the free 20-minute intro call. I want to make sure the fit is right before we talk numbers. If you have out-of-network benefits, your insurance may reimburse a portion of the cost.
What types of anxiety does therapy help with? +
Anxiety therapy can be helpful for generalized anxiety (wide-ranging chronic worry), social anxiety (fear of judgment or evaluation), panic disorder (recurrent unexpected panic attacks), OCD (intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviors), and high-functioning anxiety (performing well externally while struggling internally). If anxiety is interfering with your life, that's enough to start.
What happens in the first session? +
The first session is about getting to know you, your situation, and what you're hoping to get out of therapy. We look at your history with anxiety, how it shows up in your daily life, and what relief would actually look like for you. By the end, we'll have a sense of a game plan. It's collaborative, not clinical and cold.
How is anxiety therapy different from just talking about my problems? +
Great question! Anxiety therapy is structured and skills-based. We're not just processing feelings (though that happens too). We're building actual tools: ways to interrupt worry cycles, soothe your nervous system, and change your relationship with anxious thoughts so they stop running the show. The goal is real-world change, not just insight.
What if I start therapy and it's not the right fit? +
I so wish I could guarantee every match is perfect! The truth is that the fit between therapist and client matters a lot. That's exactly why I offer a free 20-minute intro call before we ever schedule a session. You get to assess the vibe. If it's not clicking after a few sessions, I'll help you find someone who is a better match. Your progress matters more than my client count.
